My youngest son--bless his little heart--has a habit of locking his keys in his car at least once a month, maybe more. I'd say it's a bad habit but then I wouldn't want to offend. Now I can't vouch for the method shown in this video as I haven't actually tried it (because I don't lock my keys in my car ever--not that it's a bad thing to lock your keys in your car) but if it actually works, my son's life may get a whole lot easier.

Now he just needs to buy a purse. Or maybe a nice Dolce & Gabbana man bag.

One of my goals this year was to begin an art project so I've enrolled in an online art workshop. The first task asked of all the students is to introduce themselves and share personal art blogs or art sites. Mine isn't exactly an art site but I'm going to try and include more in the future. And while I haven't created a work of art or photograph for a while, I have spent the past two years--yes it took about two years--creating a bedroom sanctuary for myself and hubby. Having been married now for fifteen years, I decided it was high time to exchange all of the old unmatched, former lifetime, and "functional" furniture for new stuff. I wanted a place where I could get away from it all in my own home--a calming, relaxing place to unwind in peace and quiet with a little bit of beauty thrown in just for fun.

After searching hundreds of pieces of furniture, art work, draperies and accessories, I found a photo online at Baylor Bone Interiors of a room that spoke to me. There's a huge handforged steel, marble-topped table that made my head spin so I tracked down the woman who designed the room. She had the last available table in her showroom in North Carolina and we bought it. It's the most expensive item in the room but worth its weight in gold. So I've spent the past two years acquiring, refinishing, creating and bargain shopping everything else to compliment this beautiful table. This is the photo that I found online.

We're fortunate to have a friend whose partner is an interior designer who designs model homes for a major home builder and we were able to purchase the bed and an armoire at a 40% discount. Below is my interpretation and finished bedroom with a closeup of the top of the table. I repainted all of the frames for the artwork above the bed and found the art itself from the book "The Hidden Treasures of Antiquity".

I made the tablecloth on the side table that hides a nice little kitty bed underneath for my shy little Annabelle along with a matching pillow sham that sits on the zebra chair.

The night light below is handmade from bamboo by Robert Thompson, found online at Beehive and sits on our old dresser that I refinished to match the bed and armoire. The glow from this lamp at night is awesome.

And because I love to garden, I used some beautiful photos from "Gardenscapes" by Lynn Geesaman for three large frames donated by my oldest son.

It's my dream bedroom. I love it. My husband loves it. My middle son told me that he hadn't known I had it in me and that he was impressed. And don't we all really want to impress our children?

I feel so grownup.

The Thanksgiving Day food coma continues...
but what a wonderful coma it is!

I don't think I'll ever tire of the traditional turkey with stuffing that my mother made every year when I was young and it makes my heart happy that my children love it as well. Every year, without fail, they tell me that my stuffing is the best ever. And every year I thank the heavens above that we're together to enjoy such a simple meal (with the exception of Matthew who's vacationing in Hawaii this year).

Another thing to be thankful for this year--thanks to Zachary--is this beautiful piano that graces my living room. I haven't played since I was a child and practicing for sometimes 2-3 hour stretches is one of the most therapeutic things I've done for myself in ages. I'm lovin' it!

My home is complete and imperfect.
Colored with conversation,
   Cohen,
   candles,
   cats,
   cool negative spaces,
   and warm ambient lighting.

Our most important works are negotiated in the negative spaces.
Nothing in the everything.
Everything in the nothing.
